October is National Breast Cancer Awareness month. Let’s help save millions of women who have been diagnosed with the disease. A Phi Kappa Zeta Sorority fundraising event will be held in the JSAC Multipurpose Room this Friday, October 2, 7-9 p.m. There will be appetizers, a silent action, and of course, entertainment!

Sister Shelby Jean Christian Kubis, 70, a retired Kendall Demonstration Elementary School teacher, died on September 24, 2009 in The Villages after suffering long illness.

Sister Shelby was born in Virginia, attended Virginia School for the Deaf, and taught many years at Kendall.  Sister Shelby Jean Christian Kubis entered PKZ in the fall of 1960 and graduated from Gallaudet University in 1963.

Sister Shelby lived in Maryland, New York, Delaware and at last in Florida. She is survived by her husband, John J. Kubis, of 44 years, two daughters: Janel Mumford and Joanie Kruger, two grandchildren, and her sister-in-law: Marie Benz.
